Live updates from Nick Saban’s radio show before Alabama plays Chattanooga

Alabama football is just a few days away from its Saturday matchup with Chattanooga at Bryant-Denny Stadium. The game against the Mocs, of the Football Bowl Subdivision, could give the Crimson Tide its 10th win of the year, and maintain its College Football Playoff hopes.

Ahead of Saturday’s matchup Alabama head coach Nick Saban is set to make his appearance on his weekly radio show, Hey Coach, live from Baumhower’s Victory Grille in Tuscaloosa.

Saban’s appearance is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. CT Thursday. Follow along here for live updates once he puts on the headset.

— Charlie Potter of BamaOnline is tonight’s media guest, wearing one of his signature hats.

— Saban starts out discussing former Alabama running back Kerry Goode’s battle with ALS. Praises Goode’s attitude as he fights the disease.

— Potter asks about the development of Alabama’s wide receivers. Saban praises the growth of the group, notes how confident they are. Says quarterback Jalen Milroe has helped on that front.

— Regular first caller Peewee in Grand Bay discusses the offensive line, as is his custom. Asks how Kadyn Proctor’s confidence has helped his play, and about guard Jaeden Roberts. Saban says Proctor has grown more confident throughout the season. Says Alabama’s other offensive linemen now know better how to help Proctor play well. Says communication had been an issue, team does better job with that now. On Roberts, Saban notes how powerful he is. Says he helps greatly in the run game. Says Tide still has confidence in Darian Dalcourt as well.

— Potter asks what it says about Milroe after he played through a thigh injury Saturday. Saban says Milroe has the passion and toughness that it takes. Praises Milroe’s work ethic and focus and has always been tough. Says he cringes a bit sometimes when Milroe takes hits, but he admires the toughness and it inspires his other teammates. Says Milroe got back to full speed on Alabama.

— Question is what makes Alabama’s current senior class special. Saban says sometimes senior day crowd isn’t as good as it should be, but encourages fans to show out for the matchup with Chattanooga. Says he doesn’t think people realize how difficult it is to be a student-athlete. Says sometimes people take that for granted, asks fans to show their appreciation on Saturday for everything the seniors have done at Alabama.

— Saban has kind words for Chattanooga quarterback Chase Artopoeus who transferred in from UCLA. Says the Chattanooga offense is good, and the Mocs are a well-coached group. Notes that Alabama fell behind when the two teams met in 2016. Says Alabama has to be ready to play Saturday. Says Crimson Tide players have been good this week, but there won’t be a single UTC player not dreaming of beating UA.

— Saban is asked who the best player he ever coached is. Says it would be unfair to everyone to pick out just one. Says trait he admires most about Alabama’s best players is the character that has gone along with their talent. Says the character is the thing to emulate.

— Potter asks whether Saban has a good recruiting story about one of the Crimson Tide’s current seniors. Saban says he has to see a list, but recalls the time he battled a snowstorm in Iowa with Mario Cristobal to recruit Ross Pierschbacher.
